Mindy Macready (Chloe Grace Moretz) finds herself living with her father's best friend, Detective Marcus Williams (Morris Chestnut), but her life as Hit-Girl is far from over and everyday she skips school to meet up with Dave /Kick Ass to practice their whoop ass movements. Aaron Taylor-Johnson gets the brunt of Hit-Girl's bashing. He still seems to be the lesesr equipped at fighting than Hit-Girl especially when Hit-Girl sends Dave dressed as a pimp into a fight against four hoodlums. She comes to the rescue and beats the living daylights out of them including chopping a hand off. Yikes! Hit-Girl's sense of humor is certainly more morbid in this version. She soon gives in to Marcus and promises to leave that behind and lead a normal life as a child. And that's when the high school cliches begin. Of course, she doesn't fit in and she gets chosen by a group of popular girls for a makeover which goes south. Watch Trailer
For her next role, we will be seeing Moretz as Carrie in the October reboot of the Stephen King story, but we get a glimpse of what happens when you mess with Moretz especially when the mean girls set a trap for the unsuspecting teen. Watch out because she comes back to enact revenge using a device that has the popular girls wishing they hadn't messed with the wrong chick. Too bad she didn't have some of the Carrie telekinetic powers, but we'll get to see that later this year.
While the high school plot sidetracked the story, there is one hilarious scene in which she discovers her desire for boys when the girls introduce her to a boy band video, which sparks something in her.
In the meantime, Dave/Kick Ass feels abandoned by Mindy so he seeks out others in costume inspired to fight crime as well. Included in that group is Jim Carrey as Colonel Stars and Stripes who is the most unattractive we've ever seen him since his Fire Bill character or even as Andy Kaufman in Man on the Moon. The group seems pointless in the majority of the story, but they do come in handy when they face Mother Fu****'s (formerly known as Red Mist) army of masked hoodlums at the climax.
When Hit-Girl is done trying to fit in, she dons the purple wig and outfit once again and continues the bloodshed. KICK ASS 2 certainly ups the ante on this one in terms of violence and blood shed, but ironically the women are the most violent in this one. Aside from Hit-Girl, a Russian dominatrix-looking killer holds the record for kills in the film than others. She's the female version of Drago (Dolph Lundgren) from the Rocky movie, but a much scarier one.
KICK ASS 2 lacked the emotional depth and meaning of the first one and strictly went for action and violence, but that doesn't mean it wasn't enjoyable. Unfortunately for Aaron Taylor-Johnson, there was not much for him to do in this one because Mindy/Hit-Girl is getting all the action and best one-liners.
Men will definitely like the film more so than women as proved by reactions after the screening. The extreme violence may be a turnoff for the wives and girlfriends, but the comic book feel should be an attraction for the testosterone audience.
