How the ‘Afraid’ Movie Will Reshape Tech Horror

John Cho Afraid movie 2024

As AI systems become more integrated into daily life, there’s a fear that society could become too dependent on them, leading to vulnerability if these systems fail or are compromised. Movies are capitalizing on that fear most recently with the success of Blumhouse's M3GAN. Blumhouse's upcoming thriller AFRAID (in theaters August 30), directed by Chris Weitz, takes tech horror to an all-new level.

'Glass' Movie Review: All Talk, No Action

Glass movie review 2019

M. Night Shyamalan's GLASS will have fans divided once again. The movie that brings back Elijah aka Mr. Glass (Samuel L. Jackson), rain coat vigilante David Dunn (Bruce Willis) and SPLIT's Kevin Wendell Crumb's (James McAvoy) various personalities for a face off everyone's been anticipating but unfortunately the payoff is missing to end the trilogy. GLASS started off promising but when they cage up the three main characters, the fun is over. There is too much explaining away the plot and not enough action.

CHIPS Movie Review: A Movie Donald Trump Would Love

Chips Movie Dax Shepard Michael Pena

CHIPS is one movie Donald Trump would enjoy watching. Dax Shepard’s CHIPS is vulgar and sexist. While it has some funny moments, it was a painful movie to watch with so many flaws to count. I haven’t had such a bad time watching a movie since SUICIDE SQUAD.

Don’t expect your parent’s CHiPs when going into the movie theater to watch this hot mess of a movie. This reboot shares nothing in common with the 70s television show except for the motorcycle action that’s mediocre at best. Dax Shepard writes, direct and stars in CHIPS, and his effort fails to reinvent a classic show into a decent movie adaptation. Like the STARSKY AND HUTCH or the DUKES OF HAZZARD movie treatment, CHIPS falls into the same trap of making it a silly comedy with no merit.

Sequels are far less superior than the originals especially when it comes to animated fare, but we are talking Disney and Pixar so we expect nothing less than the best from the studio that brought us all the equally enjoyable Toy Story movies. KEANU Movie Review: How To Watch The Movie

Keanu Movie Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele

Going in, you should know the KEANU movie, starring Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele, is a silly concept and it’s meant to be. Key and Peele are so very entertaining and funny that you can forgive the ridiculous premise. And how can you resist a cute kitty?

'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice' Spoiler-Free Movie Review

BatmanvSuperman BenAffleck 850

There are a lot of jaw-dropping scenes and reveals in BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE, but this review won’t spoil it for you. What you basically want to know is - was it good?  The Zack Snyder film has its awesome moments, but it wasn’t great.  I’m not really sure what kept it from being great, but the feeling or giddiness wasn’t there. Coming into the movie after binge-watching "Daredevil" Season 2 on Netflix may have been a disadvantage since that show is the epitome of what a superhero story should be.

'10 Cloverfield Lane' Review: Thriller is Real Nail-Biter

Mary Elizabeth Winstead and John Goodman in 10 Cloverfield Lane

John McClane would be proud. Mary Elizabeth Winstead, best known for playing Bruce Willis' daughter in the Die Hard movies, is one kick ass character in 10 CLOVERFIELD LANE. She doesn't throw punches or kicks, but her Michelle character uses her smarts and resourcefulness throughout the thriller.  Part of the enjoyment of this film is going through her journey of whether she should trust her captor played by John Goodman who claims he saved her from the end of the world. Although it bares the name Cloverfield, don't expect it to tie into the 2008 film.

The Revenant Leonardo DiCaprio 600

Carnage and brutal are the two words that came to mind after watching Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy in THE REVENANT. Directed by Mexican director Alejandro Gonzalez Iñarritu and photographed beautifully by Emmanuel Lubezki, THE REVENANT is one of those films that should be experienced on the big screen for its scope.

We didn't have to wait long for a sequel to Disney’s follow up to the mega hit FROZEN even if it is in short form.
