Will Ferrell and 1,580 of his closest costumed superhero friends made heroic history and claimed the Guinness World Records title for the Largest Gathering of Superheroes on Saturday, October 2nd at L.A. Live in Downtown Los Angeles. After the event, Will stopped by to chat with CineMovie about the best costume at the event and what superhero he will be for Halloween.
The Mega-event hosted by DreamWorks Animation was open to all caped crusaders wishing to join the fun. Will Farrell hosted the event along with Dreamworks executive Jeffrey Katzenberg and MEGAMIND director Tom McGrath. To qualify for the record attempt, all interested participants arrived dressed as an easily recognisable superhero that has appeared in a published book, comic, television program or film, as stipulated by the record guidelines. The feat was judged by official Guinness World Records Adjudicator and Spokesperson, Stuart Claxton and required a minimum of 1,501 superheroes to break the current world record.
While Will Farrell did not dress up as Megamind as he did at Comic Con earlier this year, his onscreen character was present alongside the MEGAMIND star plus 1,500 people in costumes. Many superheroes showed up to break the record with numerous Batmans, Spidermans, Wonder Women, and Incredible Hulk costumes. One Latino superhero was also present -- El Chapulin Colorado. CineMovie put Will Farrell to the test of his knowledge of south of the border super friends and he threw one at us that we didn't know about. Watch the video above.
The world record attempt marked the kickoff of MegaMonth, an official month dedicated to Mega-events across the country in celebration of the release of MEGAMIND on November 5th.
Events scheduled across the country, which include Mega regional contests, Mega marathon weekend races and Mega food festivals. MegaMonth is Dreamworks Animation’s month of Mega events.
About MEGAMIND
MEGAMIND (Will Ferrell) is the most brilliant super-villain the world has ever known…and the least successful. Over the years, he has tried to conquer Metro City in every imaginable way - Each attempt, a colossal failure thanks to the caped superhero known as “Metro Man,” (Brad Pitt) until the day Megamind actually defeats him in the throes of one of his botched evil plans. Suddenly, the fate of Metro City is threatened when a new villain arrives and chaos runs rampant, leaving everyone to wonder: Can the world’s biggest “mind” actually be the one to save the day?
RELEASE: On November 5th, in 3D - the superhero movie will never be the same! This film has not yet been rated.
