The James Bond film franchise celebrates its 50th birthday October 5, 2012 with the anniversary of Dr. No's release, the first film that launched the martini-drinking British spy into an iconic cinematic hero.  In anticipation of SKYFALL, the 23rd James Bond film in the series starring Daniel Craig, October 5, 2012 has been designated as Global James Bond Day with a day-long series of events planned for Bond fans around the world.

The celebration begins September 24 when fans will be able to own all 22 films in the franchise on Blu-ray in a comprehensive collection with BOND 50. Leading up to Global James Bond Day, events around the world are taking place such as a global survey to discover the favorite Bond film by country, a film retrospective at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, a Music of Bond night in Los Angeles hosted by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and an exhibition, “Designing 007: 50 Years of Bond Style,” at the Toronto international Film Festival. In addition,  fans and collectors will be able to partake a global online and live auction charity event of 50 lots to benefit twelve charitable institutions organized by Christie´s in London (www.christies.com/bond).

Dr. No starring the original Bond Sean Connery was released October 5, 1962.  Fifty years later, the James Bond franchise is still going strong with Daniel Craig being the sixth actor to play the Ian Fleming character. It was recently announced that Daniel Craig will return for a 24th and 25th film in the series.  007 returns to movie theaters November 9, 2012 in SKYFALL.  In SKYFALL, Bond’s loyalty to M is tested as her past comes back to haunt her.  As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost.
