Meet The New Girl With The Dragon Tattoo

An actress has been chosen to play the title role of Lisbeth in the English adaptation of THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO and it's two sequels.  Meet the new up and coming actress Rooney Mara.  

Actress Rooney Mara has won the coveted role in the American adaptation of Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and the two follow up films (The Girl Who Played With Fire, The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet’s Nest) in the trilogy by novelist Stieg Larsson.  The Nightmare on Elm Street (2010) and The Social Network actress will take on the title character of Lisbeth Salanderin.  Director David Fincher who directed Rooney Mara in his new film The Social Network will be helming Columbia Pictures’ three-picture adaptation of Stieg Larsson’s literary blockbuster The Millennium Trilogy and chose his new leading lady over other actress reportedly in the running such as Natalie Portman, Inception's Ellen Page, Carey Mulligan (Wall Street 2), and Harry Potter's Emma Watson.   

Rooney Mara will play opposite Daniel Craig who plays journalist Mikael Blomkvist who teams up with rebellious computer hacker Lisbeth Salander to investigate the unsolved disappearance of a wealthy  teen.

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo begins production next month (September) in Sweden and set for release next year December 21, 2011.

The Millennium Trilogy by Stieg Larsson has been published in 44 countries and has sold more than 40 million copies worldwide thus far. In the U.S. alone, the series has sold over 10 million copies, and the sales were recently calculated at the remarkable rate of one book per second.  The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo has broken sales records in virtually every country in which it has been published.  It has sold over 5 million copies in the U.S. and has out-sold any other e-book in that rapidly expanding market.
