Sam Raimi's production company brings us the true story of a possessed girl in THE POSSESSION and a new poster and images were unveiled this week.
The film is touted as a true story, but now a days every demon body-snatching movie is sold as events based in reality. Given its brought to us by the horror master Sam Raimi, we'll suspend belief. THE POSSESSION stars Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Watchmen), and Kyra Sedgwick ("The Closer") as parents to a young daughter Em possessed by spirit she freed from a mysterious wooden box built to hold a dibbuk, an unspeakable evil that inhabits and ultimately devours its human host. After purchasing the antique-looking box at a yard sale, Em opens the pandora box and becomes increasingly erratic, prompting her parents to take her in for medical attention. In the horror film, exorcism may not work on this demon given the slogan for the film, "Fear The Demon That Doesn't Fear God," suggest this is no ordinary evil.
THE POSSESSION, opening August 31, 2012, is directed by Ole Bornedal (NIGHTWATCH), written by Juliet Snowden & Stiles White, and produced by horror master Sam Raimi along with Robert Tapert and J.R. Young. Lionsgate and Ghost House Pictures present.
