The classic Frankenstein tale is reborn with a radical new vision. Warner Bros. Pictures has released the first trailer for THE BRIDE, written and directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal (THE LOST DAUGHTER). THE BRIDE is a family affair with Maggie's brother, Jake Gyllenhaal, and husband Peter Sarsgaard as part of the cast alongside Jessie Buckley and Christian Bale.
The film, a daring reimagining of the Frankenstein myth, arrives in theaters and IMAX in North America on March 6, 2026, with international release beginning March 4, 2026. The trailer gives off Bonnie & Clyde meets Frankenstein.
A Gothic Romance in 1930s Chicago
Set against the backdrop of 1930s Chicago, THE BRIDE follows a lonely Frankenstein (Christian Bale), who seeks the help of pioneering scientist Dr. Euphronious (Annette Bening, five-time Oscar nominee) to create a companion. Together, they revive a murdered young woman, bringing to life THE BRIDE (Jessie Buckley).
What begins as an act of creation quickly spirals into something uncontrollable — a tale of murder, possession, forbidden love, and the birth of a radical cultural movement. The trailer teases both Gothic horror and explosive romance a la Bonnie & CLYDE, with Maggie Gyllenhaal’s vision offering a provocative twist on one of literature’s most enduring legends.
