The cradle is rocking once again — and this time, it’s more terrifying than ever. 20th Century Studios has released the first trailer for THE HAND THAT ROCKS THE CRADLE, a haunting reimagining of the 1980s psychological thriller. The film will premiere on October 22, exclusively on Hulu, and many are already comparing the modern version against the Rebecca De Mornay movie.
Directed by Michelle Garza Cervera, this modern take reimagines the familiar suburban horror of trust gone wrong. The story follows Caitlin Morales (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), an upscale suburban mom who hires a new nanny, Polly Murphy (Maika Monroe). What begins as an ideal arrangement soon unravels into a nightmare, as Caitlin discovers that Polly isn’t who she claims to be — and her intentions are far more sinister. However, the story also introduces that mom isn't exactly right in the head as well, teasing that she may be going through post-partum depression. That modern twist has us intrigued.
Leading the film are Mary Elizabeth Winstead (10 CLOVERFIELD LANE) and Maika Monroe (IT FOLLOWS), two stars known for their strong performances in the thriller and horror genres. They’re joined by Raúl Castillo, Martin Starr, Mileiah Vega, Riki Lindhome, and Shannon Cochran, rounding out an ensemble that promises layered performances in a suspense-driven story.
The screenplay, written by Micah Bloomberg, is based on a story by Amanda Silver, bringing fresh tension and psychological depth to the classic concept. The film is produced by Michael Schaefer, Mike LaRocca, and Ted Field, with Michael Napoliello, Maria Frisk, and Seth William Meier serving as executive producers.
With its chilling trailer now available to watch and share, THE HAND THAT ROCKS THE CRADLE is set to be one of this fall’s most talked-about thrillers. Fans of the original and newcomers alike can prepare for a gripping story of trust, obsession, and betrayal when the film premieres October 22 on Hulu.
