THE HOST star Jake Abel initially went in to audition for the role of Jared but ended up playing Ian. He also gives us a sneak peek to the Percy Jackson sequel and why he hopes to win Best Fight at the MTV Awards next year.

CineMovie sat down with Jake Abel to talk about his new leading role as Ian in THE HOST, the science fiction thriller adapted from Stephenie Meyer’s best selling novel of the same name.  He reveals during our sit down that he went in to read for the part of Jared, the love interest for Saoirse Ronan’s character, Melanie.  Director Andrew Niccol ended up casting Jake as Ian, the love interest for the alien soul inhabiting Melanie’s body.  The decision didn’t disappoint Jake. “I couldn’t be happier that Andrew saw me as Ian.”  Jake previously had worked with Saoirse Ronan in THE LOVELY BONES so he was content with working with the talented young actress once again in a more adult role. The role of Jared eventually went to Max Irons. THE HOST Star Max Irons Makes One Twitter Fan's Day

Jake is having a good year with another film being released in the summer. Jake reprises his role in 20th Century Fox’s Percy Jackson sequel, Sea of Monsters, directed by Thor Freudenthal.  The first film, Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, directed by Christopher Colombus and starring Logan Lerman, went on to earn over $230 million worldwide in 2010.

Jake said the film was long time coming, but the sequel will be worth the wait with bigger action sequences and a bigger cast with Cyclops and Clarisse joining the war between humans, gods and monsters.  He was most excited about reshooting an action scene with Cronos which makes the film “great way to end it.”

Jake joked that perhaps next year at the MTV Movie Awards, he and Logan Lerman, his co-star in Percy Jackson, will take the Best Fight Award after losing out to Beyonce in 2011 at the MTV Award show

THE HOST is in movie theaters March 28, 2013.
