Interview: Anna Kendrick and Brittany Snow On Their Not So Pitch Perfect Performances

Anna Kendrick, Brittany Snow Pitch Perfect Interview
With Halloween just around the corner, what scares us may be more prevalent than usual, so CineMovie wanted to know what performing horror stories PITCH PERFECT stars Anna Kendrick (“Beca”) and Brittany Snow (“Chloe”) have in their closets.

“I forgot the lyrics to ‘The Good Ship Lollipop’ when I was five at a dance recital, and I decided to sit on stage and cry,” Kendrick said.

Before starring in musical hit Hairspray, Snow also experienced a mishap.

“I was in Pirates of Penzance and I had to wear this like really long fake wig, and I had to like come across the stage tip-toeing, and the wig fell off and the boy I really liked was laughing at me,” she said.

Unlike movies, on stage no one can yell “Cut!” Those moments may have been traumatizing, but not traumatizing enough to prevent these two talented ladies from creating amazing performances in PITCH PERFECT.

And lucky for these girls, who had a blast shooting the movie, the director has the ability to stop rolling when mistakes are made. According to Kendrick, some scenes were way too funny to get through without laughing!

“The scene where we’re all kinda confessing stuff was hard…(we’re) staring at each other… just sitting in a circle with these girls I got to know for three months, was just like, I can’t take you guys seriously.”

“That’s so true! For some reason I think we kinda lost it in those scenes,” Snow added.

Kendrick quipped, “At one point I was like, ‘What’s my eye line?” And you just saw 10 different girl’s hands going in different directions, ‘Anna over here!’”

The on-camera funny moments were provided by every single character. The female a capella group is known as “The Bellas” and they are made up of Kendrick, Snow, the hilarious Rebel Wilson (Bridesmaid), singer Ester Dean, comedian Hana Mae Lee, and more.

A couple years ago nerds took over television singing songs and being a part of music clubs, but PITCH PERFECT makes singing look good, alternative, and even cool.  The movie gives us mash-ups of songs that are currently popular and for you 90s kids, songs like “No Diggity” by Blackstreet (which Snow admits is her “go-to karaoke song.”)

The best part of all of the performances: they are all a cappella. Which is why you will likely hear “Aca-scuse me?” (The Bellas’ catch phrase) many, many times after the film is in theaters!

PITCH PERFECT opens in select theatres September 18 and expands to national audiences October 5th. You will want to see it again and again.
