CineMovie caught up with the KICK ASS 2 actor at the 16th Annual Impact Awards on February 22nd, where he was honored by the National Hispanic Media Coalition for his work on Broadway. The busy actor/comedian/Broadway star talked about his upcoming projects including the highly anticipated sequel to KICK ASS co-starring Jim Carrey as Colonel Stars and Stripes.
In KICK ASS 2, John Leguizamo plays Red Mist’s (Christopher Mintz-Plasse) bodyguard. He tells CineMovie he had a “blast” shooting the film with returning stars Mintz-Plasse, Aaron Johnson, and Chloe Grace Moretz. He also worked with Jim Carrey and describes him as a “funny, funny dude,” but he reveals Carrey is not cracking any jokes in this movie.
“He’s being evil. And he’s doing a good job. I don’t know where he got that evil from, but he got that from somewhere.”Jim Carrey takes on the role of Colonel Stars & Stripes, a combination of two characters from the comic book series. In the original material, Colonel Stars and his brother Lieutenant Stripes are former enforcers of a mafia family, but they repent for their sins by forming the Justice Forever vigilante group inspired by Kick Ass, and set out to rid the city of criminals.
So has writer/director Jeff Wadlow taken liberties with the Colonel Stars character? Wadlow already combined the two characters, so could it be the case that Colonel Stars turns back to his evil ways in the big screen adaptation? This new revelation just made KICK ASS 2 worth the wait.
Catch John Leguizamo in KICK ASS 2 June 28th, and later this year starring with Brad Pitt and Michael Fassbender in Ridley Scott’s The Counselor.
