Movie villains often come in the shape of a corporation. Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 is the latest movie to feature big business as the antagonist. Here are 5 fictional corporations whose greedy intentions have spawned lots of sequels.
Cyberdyne Systems (Terminator movies)
Cyberdyne Systems is the corporation behind Skynet, the artificial intelligence system that launches a nuclear war and creates the cyborgs/terminators that come after John Connor in the four movies.
In the original Terminator, Skynet sends a cyborg known as the Terminator to kill John Connor's mother Sarah to prevent John from ever existing. In the follow-up, Terminator 2: Judgement Day, the T-1000 is sent back in time to finish the job. This time we see the origins of Skynet with the Cyberdyne Systems scientist behind the technology. In the third Terminator sequel, Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines Cyberdyne's technology is taken over by the military and we see Skynet come to life in this movie. Although the follow-up to that, Terminator Salvation starring Christian Bale as the post apocalyptic John Connor, missed the mark at the box office, another Terminator movie is in the works with Arnold Schwarzenegger reprising the role that made him famous.
Weyland-Yutani Corp. (Aliens franchise)
The multinational conglomerate in the Alien franchise is behind the colonization and exploration missions in outer space. They often sacrifice human life for the sake of science. The ruthless corporation has been part of the plot in 7 movies, most recently Ridley Scott's Prometheus.
Umbrella Corp. (Resident Evil)
Another multi-national conglomerate is behind the destruction of mankind through their genetic engineering and biological weaponry, which leads to a virus infecting everyone and transforming the human race into zombies. Adapted from a video game, Alice fights against her human enemies in the human-runned company, but eventually a computer program called The Red Queen takes over.
Expect Milla Jovovich to return as Alice in the sixth zombie adventure movie in 2014.
InGen (Jurassic Park)
International Genetic Technologies, Inc.is a fictional company created by Michael Crichton in his novels. This baddie was also involved in genetic engineering, but of the jurassic kind. The idea of building an amusement park on the island of Isla Nublar from cloned dinosaurs soon sets off a firestorm in 4 movies and a forthcoming fifth film in 2014 from Steven Spielberg and company.
RDA Corporation (Avatar)
The Resources Development Administration colonized Pandora in order to mine the precious minerals at the expense of the natural habitat of the Na'vi. The indigenous with the help of humans drive off the company in Avatar, but James Cameron is currently working on 2 sequels that's sure to include a return of the money-hungry company.
