Danny Trejo Honored By Latino Organization with Surprise Guest Michelle Rodriguez

Who doesn’t love Danny Trejo and on June 8th, the actor was finally recognized with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2013 Annual National Association of Latino Producers (NALIP) Gala. Ray Liotta presented the award to Machete while Michelle Rodriguez surprised Trejo as a special guest.
The annual NALIP Gala honored Danny Trejo for his work in Hollywood. At the festivities, Ray Liotta (Goodfellas) presented his friend the Lifetime Achievement Award while entertaining the audience as he fawned over the curvy ladies at the gala saying he was in “heaven with the amount of curves tonight.” He also offered out a five dollar bill to Charo for a dance that evening.Trejo’s Machete Kills co-star Michelle Rodriguez surprised the honoree at the 2013 NALIP Gala when she ran up to the stage and presented a video message from his longtime collaborator and friend Robert Rodriguez. Michelle asked her friend if he was going to cry during his acceptance speech in which he replied “Machete don’t cry.” Well, he might not have said that, but we wish he did.
Before going into her speech about Danny, Rodriguez stole a kiss from Ray Liotta. Once Danny hit the mic, he made the audience laugh with his witty speech.
Other honorees at the 2013 NALIP Gala included Sundance darling and Filly Brown star, Gina Rodriguez who took home the first annual ‘The Lupe Award’ in honor of the spirited and beloved Lupe Ontiveros. ‘The Lupe Award’ recognizes a Latino/a actor whose work, either in a breakout role or over a life long acting career, represents Lupe’s creativity, commitment, tenacity and professionalism. The National Hispanic Foundation for the Arts, founded by Jimmy Smits, Esai Morales, Sonia Braga, Felix Sanchez and Merel Julia received the Lifetime Achievement Award for Advocacy, which was presented by Heineken USA. Ben DeJesus (Tales For a Ghetto Klown which follows John Leguizamo’s return to Broadway) and Aurora Guerrero (Sundance film, Mosquita y Mari) were each honored with the Estella Award and a $7500 grant from the McDonalds Corporation.
