"This is Us" will be coming to an end after season 6, but show producers John Requa and Glenn Ficarra revealed to us at San Diego's Comic Con that the show may go through a "reincarnation" after season 6. The two were at Comic Con promoting their new FOX show, "neXt" which premieres in 2020.
While Requa and Ficarra didn't actually say "This is Us" spinoff during our interview, the word "reincarnation" could imply spinoff after season 6. They didn't provide much detail how it would be reincarnated but perhaps the focus could shift to a different family. While they joke that tear ducts may be worn out after season 6, they didn't rule out shedding tears for completely different characters.
"This is Us" returns for season 4 this fall on September 24.
Requa and Ficarro also chatted with us regarding their new FOX's 2020 show, "neXt," a thriller about the emergence of a deadly, rogue artificial intelligence that combines pulse-pounding action with a layered examination of how technology is invading our lives and transforming us in ways we don’t yet understand.
Starring Emmy Award nominee John Slattery (“Mad Men”) as a Silicon Valley pioneer, who discovers that one of his own creations – a powerful A.I. – might spell global catastrophe, and teams up with a cybercrime agent (Fernanda Andrade, “The First”) to fight a villain unlike anything we’ve ever seen – one whose greatest weapon against us is ourselves. The series also stars Michael Mosley (“Ozark”), Jason Butler Harner (“Ozark”), Eve Harlow (“Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”), Aaron Moten (“Mozart in the Jungle”), Gerardo Celasco (“How to Get Away with Murder”), Elizabeth Cappucino (“Jessica Jones”) and Evan Whitten (THE RESIDENT).”
