Newcomer Sharlene Taulé is causing trouble on STAR as a bad girl Wednesday nights on FOX. The Dominican actress and singer talked to CineMovie’s Fernando Duran at the FOX lot in Los Angeles about the role which combines her two talents - acting and music.
Born in the Dominican Republic, Sharlene Taulé landed her first big break as Katty in the original Nickelodeon Latin American series, GRACHI, and she later toured Latin America for GRACHI, a live musical show. She followed that up with a recurring role in Telemundo’s telenovela, PASION, and in 2014 released her first single, “Mal de Amor.”
Lee Daniels’ STAR is the perfect vehicle for Taulé’s acting and singing talents. She tells CineMovie her role as Eva is her first at playing an antagonist, and she’s having a lot of fun being bad.
Benjamin Bratt Talks New FOX Series 'Star' and How It Compares To 'Empire'
Taulé also reveals her second collaboration with reggaeton artist Don Omar, and when to expect their next single.
STAR airs Wednesdays at 9pm/8pm C.
ABOUT STAR
Academy Award and Golden Globe nominee Lee Daniels – creator and executive producer of broadcast’s No. 1 series, EMPIRE – partners with Tom Donaghy (“The Whole Truth”) to pull back the curtain on music’s gritty and dark reality in STAR. Featuring a soundtrack of original music and stunning music performances, STAR is an emotionally powerful drama that follows three talented singers – running from their pasts and desperate for a new start – with ambitions of stardom, as they navigate the cut-throat music business. But reality soon dawns on the girls’ fantasies, and they start to learn that ambition often comes at a cost.
Meet STAR (newcomer Jude Demorest), a tough-as-nails young woman, who came up in the foster care system and decides one day to take control of her destiny. Star tracks down her sister, SIMONE (newcomer Brittany O’Grady), and her Instagram bestie, ALEXANDRA (newcomer Ryan Destiny), and together, the trio journeys to Atlanta with the hope of becoming music superstars.
Academy Award nominee and Emmy Award, Grammy Award and Golden Globe Award winner Queen Latifah (“Bessie,” “Bringing Down The House”) stars as CARLOTTA, a surrogate mother to the young crew that also includes COTTON (newcomer Amiyah Scott). Emmy Award nominee Benjamin Bratt (“24: Live Another Day,” “Law & Order”) plays JAHIL, a down-on-his-luck talent agent looking to revitalize his career, who’s taken a certain interest in Star. The series also features guest stars Grammy Award winner Lenny Kravitz (“Lee Daniels’ The Butler,” “The Hunger Games”), supermodel/actress Naomi Campbell (EMPIRE) and Grammy Award-nominated musician and actor Tyrese Gibson (“2 Fast 2 Furious”).
