Rachel Weisz played it bad to the bone as Evanora. Her favorite skill as a witch was definitely the flying, she told CineMovie while promoting the film along with her co-stars Mila Kunis, James Franco, Michelle Williams, and Sam Raimi.
“It’s really hard to beat flying. Flying #1. And #2, the lightning bolts for me.”Michelle Williams agreed flying was fun, but being dressed up as the good witch Glinda and “making little girls smile” as she passed by made her days on set.
Sam Raimi joked with Rachel that Evanora didn’t have that affect on the children. However, Rachel not to be outdone boasted about her Winky Guards being quite “fond of me.” “You have your children, I have my Winky Guards,” she told Michelle. When it was time for Evanora to flee, the Winky Guards yelled out, “Bye Evanora.” Weisz felt the love that day.
Mila, on the other hand, enjoyed the freedom of not having to research on playing a witch.
“There is no book on who to play a witch. You get to create your own version. It was great.”She also adds that is was “fun” playing someone with no boundaries.
All three actresses suffered through wirework to get them to fly. While they said they didn’t mind the cables running through their tight corsets, Raimi mentioned it’s fun for about an hour. After that, the wires dig into your skin as you go from take after take which can be quite uncomfortable. Having directed all three Spiderman movies, Raimi knows all too well what’s involved with stringing up your actors for hours. He called his actresses “good sports.”
Their co-star James Franco was frankly happy not to don the wireworks for this role. The Spiderman actor knows all too well what you have to endure to look like you’re flying.
“I’ve done a lot of wirework so I wasn’t that jealous of what they had to go through.”
The pint-sized star Joey King felt some jealousy with Glinda’s powers. “I want to make bubbles out of nowhere,” said the voice of China girl.
