Many have been speculating THE MASTER has some Scientology influence and they may be right when the controversial organization tried to halt the production. Many reviews have titled the film as the "movie Tom Cruise doesn't want you to see". Directed by Tom Cruise's Magnolia helmer, the film involves Philip Seymour Hoffman as a Ron Hubbard-like preacher who seduces a naval veteran (Joaquin Phoenix) into joining The Cause, In this clip, Phoenix's Freddie character seems confused about his life path, as we hear Lancaster Dodd's voice influencing his decision.
The other buzz for THE MASTER is its potential during the upcoming awards season with Hoffman and Phoenix as best actor contenders and Anderson (There Will Be Blood, Boogie Nights) in the running for best director.
