'Cars on the Road' Disney Plus Series Review

cars on the road review disney plus

Lightning McQueen and Mater team up for Disney+’s CARS spin-off series in Cars on the Road. Owen Wilson and Larry the Cable Guy return to voice the animated vehicles in an all-new adventure in nine short but sweet episodes that remind us why we love these Pixar characters so much.

Pixar Animation Studios returns to the drawing board for another CARS adventure which takes Lightning and Mater on a cross-country road trip for a wedding. Along the way, they encounter new friends, some scary, and new exploits for each episode. Directed by Pixar veterans Steve Purcell, Bobby Podesta and Brian Fee and produced by Marc Sondheimer, Cars on the Road is a delight to watch and the adults will get a kick out of the parodies of classic movies like MAD MAX and THE SHINING.

Like the I am Groot Disney+ series, each episode is a self-contained short that doesn’t require too much watch time for the entire series. Cars on the Road parodies road trip clichés and has fun doing it. Some of the adventures include staying at a haunted hotel, finding Bigfoot, encountering prehistoric cars in dinosaur form, a musical tribute to truck drivers, joining the circus and Mater getting a souped-up makeover.

Other CARS characters make brief appearances and some new voices join the fun like Quinta Brunson (Abbott Elementary) as a monster truck named Ivy.

All 9 episodes of Cars on the Road are now streaming on Disney+.
