Oblivion Star Morgan Freeman’s Alternate Universe Would Include Living in Trees

Morgan-Freeman-Oblivion-interview

In Morgan Freeman's ideal futuristic world, humans would live in trees and hunt for their own food.  Why does the OBLIVION star want humans to return to the days of the nomad?

Aside from being one of the most respected actors in Hollywood, the 75 year-old actor finds the time to be an activist for animal groups and an eco-friendly environment. According to LooktoTheStars.org, he sits on the Board of Directors for Earth Biofuels, a company dedicated to promoting the use of clean-burning fuels.  The outspoken actor has also made contributions to the Mississippi Animal Rescue League and used his distinctive voice narrating nature films such as March of the Penguins and Disney Nature's Born to be Wild.

In his new sci-fi film, Morgan Freeman is the leader of an underground group of humans who live like scavengers on an evacuated Earth. Funny enough, the activist and actor thinks the way of the scavenger is the best thing for planet Earth. While making his rounds during the press tour for OBLIVION, he described an ideal alternate universe in which mankind returns to living off the land rather than depleting it.
"We would all live in trees.  We would all hunt for our food.  We would walk wherever we went.  The planet would be rejuvenated. We wouldn't be killing off all the animals just to feed us.  I would change it like that.“
So it seems fitting that Morgan Freeman be cast opposite Tom Cruise in a futuristic film about the fate of humans and Earth, but it wasn’t the underlying themes of OBLIVION that attracted the Memphis-born actor.
“It was a Tom cruise movie.  I'm one of his huge fans… have been for I don't know how many years… way, way, way back. “

Freeman jokes he would’ve taken a small part as a truck driver just to act alongside one of his favorite actors.  He recalls becoming a fan after watching him in Risky Business (1983).  It’s hard to believe the high-in-demand actor and the mega movie star hadn’t worked together until now.

OBLIVION opens in movie theaters April 19, 2013.
