Top 10 Oscar-Worthy Movies of 2013

CineMovie’s Justine Browning counts down award-worthy films starring Ethan Hawke, Tom Hanks, Sandra Bullock, George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Joaquin Phoenix, Matthew McConaughey, Christian Bale, Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper. Some of these actors are already getting notice with Golden Globes nominations and critic recognition for their performance in films such as Captain Phillips, Gravity, Her, 12 Years a Slave, Dallas Buyers Club and American Hustle.

Directors are also enjoying the limelight with Spike Jonz (Her), Alfonso Cuaron (Gravity), Steve McQueen (12 Years A Slave), Paul Greengrass (Captain Phillips), Richard Linklater (Before Midnight) and David O. Russell (American Hustle) reaping some of the award praise for their direction.

Among the ten films are independent movies not getting as much attention as the bigger Hollywood fare starring those famous faces, but Fruitvale Station and Short Term 12 may get more mainstream recognition as they land on many critic associations best of lists of 2013.

Since the Academy Awards can vote up to 10 films in the Best Picture category, these are our picks for those slots. Watch our top 10 countdown in the video below.
