In Bridgerton fashion, Lady Whistledown dropped a bombshell for fans of the Netflix and Shondaland hit series. Regé-Jean Page's Duke of Hastings will not return for season 2. It had been announced that the second outing would focus on finding Lord Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey) a match, but most fans figured he's make a few cameos. That is not the case.
Bridgerton bid adieu to Simon Basset via a Twitter announcement in the form of a Lady Whistledown newsletter.
“Dear Readers, while all eyes turn to Lord Anthony Bridgerton’s quest to find a Viscountess, we bid adieu to Regé-Jean Page, who so triumphantly played the Duke of Hastings. We’ll miss Simon’s presence onscreen, but he will always be a part of the Bridgerton family,”” stated the message.
Pleasure and a privilege! An honour to be a member of the family - on and off screen, cast, crew and incredible fans - the love is real and will just keep growing ❤️💫 https://t.co/YBk4RvKNpx

Regé-Jean Page responded to the Twitter announcement calling it a "Pleasure and priviledge" to have played the Duke. The show launched Page into hearthrob status as well as an in-demand actor. Next Page will be seen in the Russo Brothers Netflix film, THE GRAY MAN with Chris Evans and Ryan Gosling, and he's the lead of Hasbro's adaptation of DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS.
While the books which the series is based on doesn't include the Duke of Hastings, you would think brief appearances would be ideal to capitalize on the second season.
While Page may be off the show, his on screen wife played by Phoebe Dynevor will return as Daphne to help her brother find his "Viscountess."
It'll be interesting to see if the show retains the same level of fans as the first season when Bridgerton returns later this year. The film is currently in production in London.
