Sony Pictures announced the historic studio lot in Culver City, CA will host movies in a drive-in setting. Sony will be screening their library of iconic movies like KARATE KID, GHOSTBUSTERS, MEN IN BLACK and most recent films like ONCE UPON A TIME…IN HOLLYWOOD, BLOODSHOT, BABY DRIVER, SPIDER-MAN HOMECOMING and FAR FROM HOME among others. Tickets will be sold through Atom Tickets (atomtickets.com).

Solstice Studios has once again moved Russell Crowe's thriller UNHINGED to August 21 in U.S. movie theaters. The studios' announcement touts their film as the first new release for American movie theaters since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. UNHINGED already opened in Germany mid-July, and plans to roll out the movie to Australia, New Zealand and the UK this weekend.

Warner Bros. announced Monday their movie JUST MERCY will be available on all platforms for the month of June as part of the discussion around systemic racism and the black lives matter movement.  The movie starring Michael B. Jordan, Jamie Foxx and Brie Larson is based on the true story of a wrongly accused black man on death row who was later acquitted thanks to activist lawyer Bryan Stevenson.  JUST MERCY is a compelling film that should anger everyone over the social inustice the judicial system enacts on black men too often.

UPDATE: Zack and Deborah Synder told the Hollywood Reporter the new cut may be a four-movie or cut into episodes for the new streaming service. HR also has sources claiming Warner Bros. is budgeting $20 to $30 million for post production which sounds like it needs a bit of work which explains the 2021 release. 

Since the 2017 release of DC's JUSTICE LEAGUE, fans and cast members have been campaigning for Warner Bros. to release the Zack Synder cut of JUSTICE LEAGUE, and it seems to have paid off with Synder's version coming to HBO Max in 2021.

Disney and Lucasfilm announced on May the 4th day a new film is in the works with Taika Waititi (THOR: RAGNAROK, JOJO RABBIT) directing and co-writing as well as a STAR WARS series with Emmy®-nominated writer Leslye Headland developing. Waititi has expressed interest in helming a STAR WARS film for a long time so the news doesn't come as much of a surprise, but now the lingering question is what character will be the focus of the new feature film. Warner Bros. has moved around some of their movie release dates due to the coronavirus lockdown including a bunch of DC Movies. THE BATMAN starring Robert Pattinson ceased production amid the nationwide shutdown of business as usual as well as delayed the start of production of other films in their slate including "The Sopranos" prequel movie. Depending on when production can resume, Warner Bros. may change the dates again, but here is what they are planning for their upcoming slate.

MULAN, Marvel's BLACK WIDOW, FREE GUY (starring Ryan Reynolds) were pushed to later this year and others like JUNGLE BOOK to 2021. Pixar's SOUL will remain on its original date of June 19. The new Marvel slate is also out beyond 2021. ARTEMIS FOWL will now premiere exclusively on Disney+ but no timeframe was announced. As medical experts urge the public to social distant themselves from others during the coronavirus pandemic, movie studios are taking precautions as well canceling new movie releases for March and April. Disney announced Thursday MULAN, ANTLERS and THE NEW MUTANTS will not be released as scheduled while Sony took action sooner than that moving the next James Bond film, NO TIME TO DIE to November.
