The Mayan Calendar may have been wrong about the end of the world, but the extinction of the human race is still the hot topic in a dozen Hollywood films for 2013. We take you on a tour of the new year's post-apocalyptic films.
From zombie movies to an extinct earth, films like Warm Bodies, Elysium starring Matt Damon, Oblivion with Tom Cruise, and Will Smith's After Earth, are making the future of humanity look pretty bleak for 2013. Post-apocalypse films are nothing new with classics such as Planet of the Apes, The Omega Man, A Boy and His Dog, and the Mad Max franchise being some of the favorites in the sci-fi genre.In 2013, however, movie fans will be seeing an abundance of the end of the world scenarios with some A-list talent like Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise, Matt Damon, Will Smith, and Seth Rogen and James Franco poking fun at the apocalyptic fear. Take a sneak peek at the end of the world... at least at the movies.
Warm Bodies - February 1
From the director of 50/50 comes a funny, poignant, and romantic tale about being alive, being dead, and the blurry line in between. Warm Bodies tells the story of "R" (Nicolas Hoult from X-MEN: FIRST CLASS), a highly unusual zombie who rescues a girl (Teresa Palmer from I AM NUMBER FOUR) from imminent death at the hands of his cohorts. Their unlikely romance sets in motion a chain of events that will transform him, his fellow dead, and maybe even the whole lifeless world.
Oblivion - April 12
Tom Cruise stars in Oblivion, an original and groundbreaking cinematic event from the director of TRON: Legacy and the producer of Rise of the Planet of the Apes. On a spectacular future Earth that has evolved beyond recognition, one man’s confrontation with the past will lead him on a journey of redemption and discovery as he battles to save mankind.
After Earth - June 7
In After Earth, one thousand years after cataclysmic events forced humanity’s escape from Earth, Nova Prime has become mankind’s new home. Legendary General Cypher Raige (played by Will Smith) returns from an extended tour of duty to his estranged family, ready to be a father to his 13-year-old son, Kitai (played by Jaden Smith). When an asteroid storm damages Cypher and Kitai’s craft, they crash-land on a now unfamiliar and dangerous Earth. As his father lies dying in the cockpit, Kitai must trek across the hostile terrain to recover their rescue beacon. His whole life, Kitai has wanted nothing more than to be a soldier like his father. Today, he gets his chance.

World War Z - June 20
Based on Max Brooks' best-selling novel "World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War," Brad PItt plays United Nations employee Gerry Lane trying to save humanity as a Zombie pandemic is toppling armies and governments.
Elysium - August 9
Starring Matt Damon, Jodie Foster and Diego Luna, Elysium is set in the year 2159, where the very wealthy live on a man-made space station while the rest of the population resides on a ruined Earth, a man takes on a mission that could bring equality to the polarized worlds. Directed by District 9 director Neill Blomkamp.

The World's End - August 23
Another doomsday film with a similar title comes from the funny trio of Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and director Edgar Wright. In this comedy, five friends return 20 years later to their small town to recreate their bar hopping days only to find out the residents have been taken over by aliens. The unlikely group become the town's only hope.
