The movie studio behind STEP UP: REVOLUTION used the power of social media to create a virtual dance flash mob using 300 user-generated videos into a mash-up music video over Timbaland's "Hands in the Air."
For the fourth installment of the successful dance movie STEP UP, Summit Entertainment put out a call for anyone to record their dance moves and submit it for a virtual flash mob. The film's stars and choreographers demonstrated four dances from the film which users could choose from and record themselves imitating the dance steps. Summit then turned 300 user-submitted videos from around the world into a music video featuring the film's title song "Hands in the Air" by Timbaland.STEP UP: REVOLUTION is now playing in movie theaters. Set in Miami, EMILY (Kathryn McCormick) arrives with aspirations of becoming a professional dancer and soon falls in love with SEAN (Ryan Guzman), a young man who leads a dance crew in elaborate, cutting-edge flash mobs, called “The Mob.” When a wealthy business man threatens to develop The Mob's historic neighborhood and displace thousands of people, Emily must band together with Sean and The Mob to turn their performance art into protest art, and risk losing their dreams to fight for a greater cause.
