On Kristen Wiig 's first day on set of Anchorman 2, the former SNL cast member geeked out when she saw Steve Carell and Will Ferrell in the 70s outfits.
Before Kristen shares the screen with Steve Carell in ANCHORMAN 2: THE LEGEND CONTINUES, the actress/writer voices Carell's love interest In another sequel, DESPICABLE ME 2. Kristin Wiig returns in a much bigger role in the movie that launched the minions career. In the first DESPICABLE ME, she voiced the not-so-nice head of the orphanage, Miss Hattie, but she returns in an all-new role as spy who recruits Gru into a secret organization that battles super villains. On ANCHORMAN 2, Wiig is just one of the many A-list cameos along with Jim Carrey, Harrison Ford, Nicole Kidman, Kirsten Dunst, Vince Vaughn, Sacha Baron Cohen, Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Liam Neeson, Kanye West and singer/rapper Drake.
Kristen recently admitted during a press day for DESPICABLE ME 2 that Anchorman is one of her favorite movies and she signed on immediately when she was offered the role before knowing much about it. “I was totally completely faltered,” she says. She didn’t expect the feeling she got when she arrived on set for her scenes.
“I love all of those guys. I think it was my first day and they were all there in costume and I kind of freaked out for a minute, I couldn't actually believe that I was there. It was surreal.”
Wiig’s role in the film is still hush-hush with only a glimpse of her character and funky hair in the latest movie trailer, but we’re hoping it rivals the outrageous male counterparts. Kristen is no stranger to wacky characters, but is she worried since her departure from NBC’s Saturday Night Live means an end to her outlandish characters?
“Gosh, I hope not. Now that I'm no longer on SNL, I guess the chance to find those crazy characters won't come around as much. That was a weekly thing of being able to be fearless and find all those different voices and people. Actually doing an animated movie is the next best thing because you can be big and broad and use different voices where you really can't do that so much in a live action movie. I hope I can continue to find more because I really enjoy it.”
Kristen gets to exercise her wacky side once again when she reprises her role in the sequel to How To Train Your Dragon 2 in 2014, but in the meantime, she steals the show in DESPICABLE ME 2, opening July 3rd.
