Latino actors are often relegated to playing the help, the gang member or a drug king so when actress Carla Jimenez went in for yet another role as the maid for FOX’s THE MICK, she thought she would have to resort to playing yet another stereotype. Luckily for Jimenez, the role as Alba is a multi-dimensional character with her own quirks that goes beyond the typical portrayal. The Los Angeles-born native tells CineMovie how she won over the role.

FOX has renewed their new Wednesday night shows for a second season. LETHAL WEAPON based on the Mel Gibson movie is a hit with audiences averaging 11 million viewers a week. THE MICK starring a very funny Kaitlin Olson averages 8 million followed by the Lee Daniels show STAR with 7 1/2 million viewers.

We don't have to wait to see what sort of trouble Claire Danes' Carrie gets into on HOMELAND's season 6 because Showtime has made the first episode available online. The HOMELAND premiere is set for Sunday, January 15 but Showtime subscribers can get it first on streaming and on-demand platforms. Happy New Year to us.

Lee Daniels, the co-creator of Empire, brings us another family drama centered around music and fame with Star starring Queen Latifah, Benjamin Bratt, Lenny Kravitz, and newcomers Jude Demorest as Star, Brittany O’Grady as Simone, Ryan Destiny as Alexandra and Amiyah Scott as Cotton. Benjamim Bratt says the show has a similar DNA to Empire, but Star is a different show.
