Gina Rodriguez is being called the “It Girl” for her breakthrough performance in FILLY BROWN, but the up and coming actress isn’t about to compromise her values in exchange for fame.
The Los Angeles Times and The Hollywood Reporter hailed the newcomer as one to watch for in Hollywood. Gina Rodriguez, in her second leading role in a film festival favorite, plays Mara Jose "Majo” Tonorio in FILLY BROWN, a struggling hip-hop artist seizing her dreams without compromise. Starring opposite Edward James Olmos, Lou Diamond Philips , and the late, great Diva de la Banda, Jenni Rivera in her acting debut, the graduate of NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts gives a compelling and electrifying performance.
CineMovie’s Pili Montilla sat down with the Chicago native to talk about her new movie and how it relates to her own values as an actress. Gina reveals she has said no to stereotypical roles and hopes her performance in FILLY BROWN is an example of positive portrayals that will inspire more films like it.
FILLY BROWN opens April 19, 2013.
