Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall's return as Akeem and Semmi in COMING 2 AMERICA became the #1 streaming movie around the globe on Amazon Prime. Amazon Prime Video released a press release stating the movie's massive opening weekend broke records as the most watched movie so far in 2021, and the last 12 months.
THE FLASH director Andy Muschietti has cast Latina actress Sasha Calle (The Young and the Restless) as the cinematic Supergirl for the 2022 movie starring Ezra Miller. The Argentinian director surprised the actress with the news over a Zoom session, and she burst into tears. Calle's casting marks the first time a Latino actor will be playing a DC character in a DCEU movie. Watch the video.

On Thursday the The Walt Disney Company’s Investor Day event, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy announced Taika Waititi will indeed direct a new STAR WARS movie, and Patty Jenkins has joined the universe for ROGUE SQUADRON, a film focused on strarfighter pilots in-training. Waititi's STAR WARS film has no title or focus but Kennedy promised a "fresh" and "funny" approach.

Anthony and Joe Russo return to the director's chair after directing the last few AVENGER movies with Apple TV+'s upcoming movie, CHERRY starring Tom Holland. The fifth installment of the SCREAM franchise has wrapped, and with that came the announcement of the official title from creator of the franchise, Kevin Williamson. Simply titled SCREAM, Paramount Pictures and Spyglass Media Group will release the new film on January 14, 2022.

Christopher Nolan's TENET earned $20.2 million at the domestic box office (including Canada) with 65 percent of the movie theaters open in the United States. Walt Disney Animation Studios’ next flick RAYA AND THE LAST DRAGON opens in theaters March 12, 2021, but seven months out from the release - Disney announced the lead has been recast with Kelly Marie Tran (STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI) voicing Raya along with two additional directors. Disney veteran Don Hall (BIG HERO 6, MOANA) and newcomer Carlos López Estrada (BLINDSPOTTING) were also announced as new directors along with the original directors getting co-director credit.

Russell Crowe's UNHINGED is the first major theatrical release to hit movie theaters in months, playing in 1,823 North American theaters. The thriller earned $4 million over the weekend, which in ordinary times would be considered a weak opening, but given the landscape - Solstice Studios is happy with the box office results. In addition to touting their successful release, the studio's official statement seems to be trying to convince movie-goers that watching films in a movie theater is safe.

Matt Reeves laid out the entire story for his take on THE BATMAN, and it's going to be epic. Described as a detective story, Robert Pattinson sets out to solve some heinous murders in Gotham City. Inspired by the movie CHINATOWN, this version of the caped crusader will not be an origins story but as someone coming into his abilities. A first look was released, and the mood is definitely dark and gritty.

Sony Pictures announced the historic studio lot in Culver City, CA will host movies in a drive-in setting. Sony will be screening their library of iconic movies like KARATE KID, GHOSTBUSTERS, MEN IN BLACK and most recent films like ONCE UPON A TIME…IN HOLLYWOOD, BLOODSHOT, BABY DRIVER, SPIDER-MAN HOMECOMING and FAR FROM HOME among others. Solstice Studios has once again moved Russell Crowe's thriller UNHINGED to August 21 in U.S. movie theaters. The studios' announcement touts their film as the first new release for American movie theaters since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. UNHINGED already opened in Germany mid-July, and plans to roll out the movie to Australia, New Zealand and the UK this weekend.

Warner Bros. announced Monday their movie JUST MERCY will be available on all platforms for the month of June as part of the discussion around systemic racism and the black lives matter movement. The movie starring Michael B. Jordan, Jamie Foxx and Brie Larson is based on the true story of a wrongly accused black man on death row who was later acquitted thanks to activist lawyer Bryan Stevenson. JUST MERCY is a compelling film that should anger everyone over the social inustice the judicial system enacts on black men too often.

UPDATE: Zack and Deborah Synder told the Hollywood Reporter the new cut may be a four-movie or cut into episodes for the new streaming service. HR also has sources claiming Warner Bros. is budgeting $20 to $30 million for post production which sounds like it needs a bit of work which explains the 2021 release.
Since the 2017 release of DC's JUSTICE LEAGUE, fans and cast members have been campaigning for Warner Bros. to release the Zack Synder cut of JUSTICE LEAGUE, and it seems to have paid off with Synder's version coming to HBO Max in 2021.
